If you want maximum lighting to get to the bottom of the tank... say if you wanted to keep trachyphilias or and sort of Tridacna clam then I would say go with the 400 watt MH bulbs. Crocea clams would have to be put higher up in the tank than on the bottom, but maximas would be alright on the bottom and any other clam would be fine on the bottom.
honestly, get one that no longer shows its bubbles. If it still has its bubbles, that means its wild caught and most likely a lot less hardy than captive bred animals. I can't really reccomend any dealers for buying them. I got mine from a wholesaler in SF.
