So my rose queen and midas (both around 6in) have been in my 100 gal together for around 3 weeks now. The RQ is defnitely the alpha fish, frequntly chasing my midas around the tank confining him to hiding places. He is hiding most of the time except when I go to the tank to feed he comes right out. My question is what can I do to alleviate some of the RQs aggression? Or should I just let it be since my midas is for the most part unharmed and in good health? Thanks guys!

Btw: a pic of my midas is my profile

Should add some target fish. It may not be doing physical damage but it's stressing our your Midas which will result in slower growth and stress reduces overall health

Crazymike, I have 4 rosy red long tail barbs which have been in the tank for 3 months as dithers (dithers the same as target?). Used to have 5 but one went missing (you know who I think is the suspect.....) Anyway you think they are not enough? Maybe too small? They are only around 2 and a half inches.

I don't think your tank is big enough to house the two together long term. My guess would be one will lose the territory battle sooner rather than later if you don't divide them. At 6", both are reaching sexual maturity and their aggression will only increase.

Will they fight to the death or just establish a heirarchy? I ask because I have seen many successful tanks with coexisting large cichlids

Depends but I'm guessing death if the other fish isn't defending itself

Not that you mention it not many. Rosequeens are a type of flower horn? They dont look anything like a FH. I was told they are a mix between vieja and blood parrot but not sure. Is it just hybrids that are this cranky?

I don't think much blood parrot goes into that mix more rd/Midas/midevil genes go into I think but who knows. Lots of cichlids can be cranky

That what I thought because he has a lot of traits similar to the Midas, but he has a neon pink highlighter color that I have never seen in any Midevil ever. Maybe the traits are from the Vieja. I'm really sure. I just dont want my Midas to die....there is alot of aggression and back and forth chasing but no damage at all.
