I've never heard of rough scales being a problem. Maybe fin spines? I still don't see any probs using convicts as feeders. Get a tub of Sailfin Mollies, they make babies like it's going out of style, too. The remedy to your situation, as is the case with many things in life, is to just grow your own.

Honestly I forget the exact reason for the Cons (pretty sure it had to do with the scales).
I never thought of mollys:D

mollies, gambusia, platies, swordtials, guppies they'll all be very easy to breed and you can be confident that they're healthy.

Out of all the easily fish to breed, which would you say gets the biggest the fastest??
I'm feeding a small school of Tats

Out of the above stated, do they have a large spine like goldfish (except for guppies:))??

i dont know about you but ive had success feeding the predators i used to have with frozen smelt and frozen raw shrimp thawed out in cold water before feeding them. they are easy to "gut load" with pellet foods. the only down side is if they are left uneaten in the water for too long it could foul the water. keep us posted with what you decide to do. good luck

I'm trying the starvation diet as of today. Half are on Market shrimp and the others are fairly new and on feeders. I have had minor success from my first Tat. He has taken shots at silversides.
For the time being I was asking this Q about feeders:D
Almost there thou:headbang2

I had been wondering this, too. That is basically the reason I got goldies instead.

I am planning on breeding my own fish as soon as I can. I was going to go w/ cons, but I think I'm going to breed jewels instead. May go the large livebearer route instead. The problems I've heard about using cons are the hard dorsal fin rays, their tall body shape, and the fact that they are pretty fast and can sometimes escape the grasp of the other fish and end up growing up in the tank. My dat is super fast (and payara, too), though, so I don't think that would be a problem for me. My lima actually caught the one small con I wanted to get rid of and threw in the tank.

Jewels?? Never heard of them. Are they fast breeders? Do they have a lot of fry?

I raise rosy reds (fathead minnows) outdoors in my goldfish/koi pond. They like cooler water in the low 70's. They're easy to breed too if kept outdoors in a well oxygenated pond.

Nice. Can you sell them to Petco in Culver City Cali:ROFL:

I'm thinking of breeding minnows in a 50gl, but not sure if I want to do that:D.

I think i'm just going to stick to quarantine feeders and hopefully the starvation diet will work:D:popcorn:

Jewels are African cichlids. They like to breed and fight like convicts.
