I just set up a simple 2gal. quarantine tank for rosie red feeders (for my Needlenose). It has a basic sponge filter/aerator, some rocks in the bottom, and a light.

How many feeders is a ballpark to keep in here? Also, do I need to treat them with something before feeding them to my Needlenose?

Your question is very loaded but here gos my best answer

If you have room I would upgrade to a 10 gallon for a couple bucks then you could house more maybe 20?

The name of the game with feeder quarantine is to keep them in the tank as long as possible usually with some sort of parasite treatment. The longer the better. I would go Minimum of 1 week

The most difficult part of the process will be rotation. Keeping a supply of "safe" feeder fish while some how starting the process over with new fish.
It is very difficult with 1 quarantine tank.

If the feeder fish are only a treat given once or twice a week it will work

As for a staple diet you may want to try to get him to accept some frozen silver sides, smelt, or shrimp

I am not sure how easy or difficult it will be with that species

Good luck :)

get a second q tank yo move the feeders once they are safe

Unfortunately it was a hassle just to get the 2gal. I'm in college and my apartment doesn't really allow for lots of space. The rosies are a treat for my bichir now and then, but will be a staple for my needle unless I can get him off live food (however I haven't seen him eat yet (live or otherwise) since I only got him 2 days ago)

What type of parasite treatments do you think will work?

Agreed. That pretty much sums it up.

I haven't seen guppies for sale (other than fancy ones) in any of my LFSs

Fancies breed just as easily. As for the space issue in college, not much of an excuse. You don't actually need a tank- just anything that can hold water. They make rubbermaids that fit under beds. Last time I checked, those were water tight.
