I posted in another area before but got little intrest how come no one ever mentions much about the fosso chromis rostratus are they unpopular or do not many people have them. We have a group of about 10 of them and the male is a stunning looking fish kind of electric blue with some metalic colors like copper thrown in and the females are also quite pretty. Anybody know why this is.

I love fossos. I used to have a few until my tank cracked. One day, i will have some more for sure.

Nice to hear did you ever raise any and how big did your fish get Ive heard they can reach over 12 inches.

I love my Rostratus. :)
He's just over the 13" mark.

Wow that must be getting to a max size in an average tank. Did he get darker blue ours is alot darker than that but they are really nice fish no matter what.

Mine never made it past 6" as the tank cracked and I lost all of my haps. One day, I will rebuild the colony I had.

At that size if it is a male should show color soon. I think I read they prefer a colony though but even the females are nice looking fish and neither sex seems to be aggresive to other kinds of fish. The males can be a little rough on females if you dont have enough of them. If you could I would grab at least 4or 5 more if they are not to pricey,

He just continues to grow. I have a pair in a 125gal along with other large haps here and there (maybe 13 fish total). Both were about 5-6", then a couple weeks later, the male just exploded in size and color. I'd say he's about 2.5yrs old, and he didn't start to color till about 2yrs old.
He's not aggressive at all, but does chase the female around. (no breeding yet).
He's a gentle giant. But these guys are incredibly fast swimmers, so if a fish gets in his way, he will knock it out lol.
