Hey,

So a week ago my male Rosy barb had his bottom fin ripped off . I assumed this was with fighting with the males but applied a bit of melafix anyways. He is healing up nicely in my quarantine tank rn.

But last night, I saw my female Rosy barb have a red / white mark on both sides of her body. Is this an attack or a disease?

The fish in the tank are giant danios, a geophagus, a ropefish and a rainbow shark.

Thnx

How big is the barb and how big is the rope fish?
Rope fish are predators........
Without anything else in the tank that is my guess.

My rope fish is about 30 cm and my rosy barbs are about 7-8. But they are FAT so the ropefishes small mouth can only scratch em. And the ropefish never has any interest in any other fish when he is swimming. I say him eating my water lettuce once!

Agh, I forgot to post pics...

Ropefish are predators and do most of their hunting at night. It may be something else but don't underestimate the ability of the ropefish. I know a little about ropefish.....

That's a lot of ropes and bichirs!

Ok, maybe my ropefish maybe biting the rosy barbs, I will try to keep a lookout but unfortunately, there is not much I can do now. I will try to feed him more often.

And also, have you seen the pic of the female rosy barb- does that look like a possible disease to you?

Rosies can also been quite boisterous with each other in my experience.

That mark on the female looks like an abrasion of sorts, from what I can make out.

The abrasions are why I said what I said. Looks like something grabbed it, upper jaw on one side and lower on the other. When my dels started eating my giant danios the danios first showed signs like these. Missing fins, abrasions on both sides. It was like they were testing to see if they could eat them. Then I started finding them missing bellies/soft parts. Eventually they just started to disappear. With a couple fat dels.
