I know that goldfish are crap as feeders, and I've never used them, but I do use Rosy reds on occasion. I wanted to know if they are just as bad as goldfish nutrition wise or if they are good as the occassional treat (once or twice a month). I tried to find my answer on google first but had no luck. I heard that there is less of a chance of parasites with rosy reds from petstore employees (that doesnt hold to much water with me) but nothing on nutritional value. My jacks and my O love them and I like to watch them get there exercise in chasing them. I do use feeder guppys as well (I breed them) but thats a little slow, but my bichir finds it easier to catch a guppy.

Goldfish, Rosie Reds, and Guppies are excellant fish to experiement with breeding......Their ease of keeping and their hardinest to put up with alot of elements makes them popular feeders.....As far as nutritional quality goes, near to none.......When it comes to feeders, try breeding your own, start with Convict Cichlids........Pack the fry with color enhancing pellets and flakes.......Then feed the fry as feeders..this way you are gauranteed disease-free fish.........

Your feeder guppies are good, but I would never feed goldfish or rosy's. If I feed live, it is always quarantined tetras, or cons that I have bred.

I've thought about starting a convict breeding set up.Do they grow fairly fast?

I found this a while ago...nightcrawlers don't seem too bad compared to most. No idea who made it or how accurate it is...but there's gotta be some degree of accuracy.

no, not at all. it takes months to get them to a decent feeder size. i use to breed them for my piranhas.

It all depends on how much room you give them. It can be slow at first, but once they get going you have a pretty steady stream of fish. It was really only worth it to me when I had a lot of fish to feed.

Minnow breeder says Bass, Bluegill and Trout are fed minnows until release to wild. Also that Minnow Breeders are regulated to quality assurance. They look healthier. Local bait shop refered me to breeder to get answers to questions about feeding Minnows to my Dats periodically
