i recently picked up 5 rosy red minnows to cycle my tank.they are very lame.they sit in the one corner of the tank and do nothing.but today i realized there is a small bunch of eggs on the glass.ive had the fish for 4 days.would they lay eggs already?

not near enough bio load to cycle a tank. gonna take forever.

I dunno, I think it would depend on the size of the tank. My 20 gallon long is cycling well with Rosy Reds. I started with 7 Rosy Reds and one Crawdad and needless to say, two weeks later, I'm down to 2 Rosy Reds and one Crawdad. That d*mn Crawdad sure loves to eat the Rosy Reds at night... Anyway, two weeks into cycling a brand new tank I'm already seeing measurable amounts of Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrates. I'm sure the Crawdad has a lot to do with it, but either way I'm hoping to have my tank fully cycled within the next two weeks.

And in the OPs case, if he does indeed have eggs the extra Bio load brought about by the fry should help. I'd say feed them a bunch and you should be fine, it just might take a while.

Sounds like they could be snail eggs. Are they scattered around or does it look like a blob?

Also, IMO it's a horrible idea to cycle with feeder fish. There is tons of talk on this site about how unhealthy and potentialy disease-ridden feeder fish can be, and most would never feed their fish an unquarintined feeder. Why would you introduce a potentially diseased fish to your tank? I'm not trying to be mean or anything, just think about it.

well,my last tank was decimated by ich..so i made sure these rosy reds were healthy, which they are.the lady at the pet store tried to get me to get feeder gold fish but those looked terrible.i just figured id use fish that were cheap.i also have a large snail, bamboo shrimp and a pleco in the tank.i got the shrimp and pleco because i got them for a dollar each on sale and i couldnt pass up the offer.they all seem very healthy.and yes,the eggs are in a blob stuck to the side.

and do u guys have any suggestions on how to increase bio load without spending too much money? im kinda on a tight budget

theyre are pretty much the same color as the rosy reds were...i got rid of them...there are 4 globs of eggs.in the bottom in two different corners on the glass.the only snail i have is a bigger snail and he already had an eggsac on his shell i had to clean off so i dont think its snails...should i get rid of the eggs?
