Rotating Spray Bar

Just had a light bulb moment, perhaps a dim one lol!

Any ways, how about a plastic version of a fire safety ceiling mounted sprinkler? As in water comes down the pipe and as it exits, at speed, it hits a plate of some type, suspended perhaps an inch below the outlet, thus evenly splashing the water up and out evenly. I can see this would make a right mess so need to be fully contained.

Light bulb has turned off. Back to the drawing board 😞

put the return pipe through a larger plate over top, and it would contain the upward splash from hitting the plate on the bottom.

Two heads are better than one!

On further reflection, my initial illuminated thought could be achieved easily on a pipe feeding vertically. Say you use a 11/2" pipe, use a solvent weld stop end, with a screw cap so it's sealed off completely but accessible if need be.

So now the pipe is totally sealed and no water can exit. If you used a Dremil or whatever you like, cut four large squares out, all the way round. Leaving the stop end in place. Follow me? Just leaving four thin uprights of pipe, the water would come down the pipe, hit the stop end and just splash out of all four square holes. You can drill a couple of holes in the stop end to ensure water still hits media directly below it. And of course as just suggested, create a shroud to slide over the pipe during assembly to act like a reverse umbrella.

I bought one and attached it on the output of my eheim 2217 and hate it. I modified it so it doesn't spin around

Well, what did you not like about it and where did you get it from?

In the same amount of space that that spray bar will take up you can easily install a dispersion plate. Its just an acrylic tray and has a solid center section (with no holes) approximately one and a half to two times the diameter of the pipe that feeds in to it. Outward from that, drill 3/8" diameter holes covering the remainder of the plate about every 1" on both the length and width of the tray. Then place nylon window screening (cut to size) over the entire tray to cover all holes as a prefilter for larger debris. The spinner bars on somewhat rare occasion do stop, and any bacteria allowed to dry tend to die accordingly. This method alleviates that possibility and permits very good dispersion and water flow.
