Gratz Abarilot!!!

im in the process of raising Altifron fry. Moving my fry was easy cause the parants had them in their mouths so I caught each parent and stripped the fry into a 55g nursery tank.

As far as feeding I used frozen baby brine and Hikari Fist Bites. Mine are now approx 1/2" so now im feeding them crushed flakes and frozen worms

i also use frozen baby brine and hikari first bites for the first few weeks then i switch to ground spirulina flakes, artemia, and krill fines.

Today I transfered all the wigglers into a 10g bare bottom tank. My sponge filter has yet to come in the mail so I hooked up an air stone. All the wigglers still have their yolk sacs so it should still be a day or two until they are free swimming. I'm still suprised the parents were awesome throughout the whole process. They never let any of the other fish come near and they even bit the hose repeatedly as I removed the wigglers.

More questions: How much and often should I feed the wigglers once they lose their yolk sacs? Then is it a good idea to siphon off the excess after say 30mins after feeding?

I setup a BBS hatchery tonight following this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8sNx9zTOnQ

You need some kind of filter in the tank to process ammonia/nitrite. An airstone by itself won't do that. The brine breaks down really quickly after it dies so you'll need biological filtration of some kind. When your sponge filter does come, you may want to wrap some filter floss or media from your established tank around it to jump-start the cycle.

Brine will live in fresh water for a few hours so you can let the fry continue to eat it. You don't have to wait until their yolk sacs fully disappear -- the day they all start swimming is when you can start adding small amounts of brine. You will see their tummies turn orange. Feed several times a day and keep their tummies full.

I do have an established HOB I can use for the tank however I dont wanna suck up any of the young. It does have a pretty low setting so I can give that a shot if you think its wise while I wait for the sponge filter to come.
