Hello, friends!
As many of you may know, some Polypterus suffer from a condition called bloating. There are several theories about the reason for the occurrence of this phenomenon. Giving a browsed aimlessly, I came across the video below:

Does not spawn females may die because of it? And in some cases, bloating not responding to conventional treatments would actually these eggs maybe corrupted?

i doubt it. I think a female with lay the unfertile egg than to die.

So, it would just an unfortunate coincidence?
That would have just died before it could spawn?
The roe in the video appear healthy?
It could appear healthy, but it could've jumped out, had internal parasites, bad water quality, too much stress etc..., the video doesn't give a good description.

It is true ... Since we don't have many reports of autopsies on fish that died from bloating, so it would be premature to make any association between lack of spawning and the disease.
Thank lix and B.

Bloat (in all fish) can be caused by a number of things, these appear to be the most common:

Egg binding (females inability or unwillingness to release eggs)
Intestinal blockage (often through swallowing substrate)
Bacterial infections and internal parasites
Swim bladder problems.

i guess this pretty much sums it up. the female does seem to have a ton of eggs in the belly.

Never heard of it happening with polys but it is a common occurrence with other fish. They fish do not just lay eggs to prevent becoming egg bound. It usually happens when the female is roaring to go but the male is uninterested. Usually the fish becomes listless stays on the bottom and refuses to eat like in most illness.
