Hi Everybody,
Let me start by giving a salute all of you for having tons of patience for keeping one of the most fragile species of fish I’ve ever encountered…
Anyway I’m a snakehead lover, and after a while on MFK, I have developed some interest towards this unique species…thanks for all those good info and tips.
Anyway as I got a spare tank…I just told myself, why not I try to get one…
And yesterday, I just got myself “God knows what” species of Dat…hehe
He is fat n almost abt 7 inches, and I’m quite surprise to find somebody is selling Dat at this size …lucky me..hahaha :screwy:
and as the moment I pick him up ,he has already shown the common “rotten banana” colour…(big deal.. haha)
I have kept fish especially snakehead since I was young ,and I even managed to tame the wild one easily in my aquarium, even some are 2 feet in sizes… so in my mind, what the heck…it shouldn’t be any problem with this small fella…
After I brought him home and put him alone in 3 feet glass, he started hiding in one of the driftwood… (Maybe he is shy n scared.. hehehe…) :grinno:
I checked him every 2 hrs…and still…he is in there…hmmm…this is amazing….and the colour still maintain rotten…
I gave him a feeder and to my surprise, in his camouflage mode, he ate the feeder…hmm.. that is a good sign…
I tried to on the tank light, but it seems like he doesn’t like it….
At night I check on him, found out that he is swimming happily with this rotten coat…but whenever I come nearby…he is back in his cave again….
So now after about 24 hrs having him, I don’t see any sign of stable yet…
Yupp… I know it’s too early for him to settle, but, I have never encounter such a behaviour before….how naïve am I…hahaha :grinno:
Anyway I’m trying to remove his hiding place …and see how he behaves….I have gone thru all the forum discussion about datnoid on MFK… pheww.. it took me almost 4 hrs plus to just read on “stable” part…there are tons of good tips…thks guys…some prefer give him a place to hide, and some don’t…hmmm…will try n let u guys know…sigh…
Any suggestion to make him stable faster are welcome….(Pls… haha)
This is my guy…Rottenbananaindo Datnoid…haha..:D
And its indo rite???

Tunblue it's a nice looking fish despite the stability. Put some other fish in with it, especially ones that are not shy and are greedy feeders, such as a scat. And most of all be patient.

Looks like an Indo. Good luck with it.

Yea it is definitly a indo, i read i a thread not to long ago that you could put your filters return tube at the bottom on the tank or a powerhead to make alot of current at the bottom of the tank and it might stable them up, datnoids like alot of current.......Goodluck and nice lookin Indo

Your gonna have to wait alot longer than 24hours to see his true colors, unless that is his true color. I would say weeks and months sometimes years, not hours. The less you keep changing things in the tank the shorter it will take. Alot of new dat keepers will change the tank around every couple of weeks or less because their dat isn't showing color, thinking that they will stumble upon the ideal condition and their dat will show their color. IMO the less you change, the shorter the time it takes for your dat to feel comfortable ;)

That's exactly right.
However if u are going to change your set up, do it ONCE, then leave the set up for several months (4 months min. For example)
As vanimate said, less u do the better.

tunblue,

Welcome to datnoid keeping.... these fish will test your patience....

+1 to vanimate and ade.... it will take probably months before you see any difference....

theres no exact way on how you can make your tiger stable.... its like what probably worked for me may not worked for you.... you also have to consider your filtration... you should have a good filtration since tigers loves clean water... a clear sign that your water is not good when you see them scratching their sides against the wall or floor of your tank.... its an indication you need to make a WC....

also put some diether fish like TF or SD... but the best thing to do is to add more ITs... the more the merrier!!!!! atleast 3 so the aggression will be lessen. regarding the water current, you dont need a strong current for them... just make sure you have good water circulation.

some tigers dont mind bright lights some does.... you might want to try to open the lights for 8hrs every day so it will get used to it....

lastly nice classic pattern!!!! 4 bars IT... if its a FNFB its really a nice catch... hope it will become stable in no time...
