Royal Pleco - feedback on quality of fish

I'm all for trying to resue sickly fish, But there is no way I would pay that much money for a fish in such rough shape when they are readily available online. I'm sure there are vendors that will ship to new zealand.

Just look at pic #2, It doesnt look like he was properly cared for at all. I'm surprised he lived as long as he did with his original owner

Rescue?! The fish looks fine. The belly is slightly concave but is nothing to be concerned about, it missed a meal and had a big crap. The visual effect looks to be exacerbated by the lighting and the fish's stripes. If this is what people consider a 'sunken belly', then they are mistaken.

I strongly disagree. This fish is obviously not eating right. Which can be a death penalty for panaques. their intestinal tract is very complicated and they are notorious for being prone to death once their belies become concave. Could it be saved? More that likely. Have I seen worse? Yes. Would I in a million years pay $80 for him...not a chance. Add on top of the fact that you are moving him to a new tank and then you have to try and get him to eat before the problem gets any worse. Just my 2 cents.

i have ordered a 8 to 10 cm specimen from the importer direct.
should be a good one.
out of the group he imported, some have slow growth, and he has separated another group where it overtook the other group in growth, im getting that group that over took the other lol

i requested from him to give me the fastest grower

I agree 100%

This fish is healthy looking to me. The eyes are fine and not sunken in a bit.

just got the fish! no pic but very gorgeous, looks identical to the picture on the hikari packaging lol
textbook!
very high tall dorsal fin.... looks a lot more striking to my old royal panaque ages ago, unfortunately it died, i knew the reasons and now rectifying that (it ate meat based foods too much!! )

this fellas diet will be predominantly hikari algae wafer.
