Royal Pleco or Gold Nugget with Bichirs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really?? That is good to hear. I've always been a big pleco fan and have had bnp's, gold nuggest, L200 G,Phantons, and a lot of the nicer ones but I have totally avoided putting any plecos in with my bichirs because I always heard people say they will suck on the slime coat. Now you got me wondering if I can add a nice pleco after all.

etkelly if your local shop has a royal for only $20 then by all means grab it. Normally royals will start at about $40/$45 for even a 3" one and go up from there so thats a great price.
That’s what I was thinking too, I’m going to grab one tomorrow hopefully!

Great price! I’d get that in a heartbeat! And I already have two royals lol.
I’ve never had an issue with my plecos and bichirs. I’ve got an ornate around a foot long with a big L190 and a big L137. Plus a 4 inch endlicheri with an L191, L14(meat eater) and two bristlenose. No issues with that one either.
How big are yours and how fast do they grow? I’ve read 1” per year which is crazy slow, was hoping he would catch up with my bichirs within a year or two.

My royals have always grown super slow. The bigger one I got when it was bigger already and the smaller 191 doesn’t look like it has grown much at all. Make sure you keep them well fed. They get malnourished pretty easily and they’re almost impossible to bring back. Lots of driftwood (mine eat Malaysian and cholla) and try different kinds of veggies until you find something they like. They’re picky little pains!

hmm, now i’m wondering if it’s worth it.

Looks like l190.

I agree, looks 190. Get it on food before you put it with other fish. Get a good feeding response so it doesn’t get out competed.

Alright thanks, he seems to be missing a pice from the top part of his tail fin, it should grow back with time right?
