Royal pleco problems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I too am curious how much you feed. I tend to stay away from any meds but salt except in EXTREME cases.

I feed daily with veggie tabs. He eats about two medium sized potatos a week, I almost always keep one in there for him. I feed shirmp daily as well, but the scarlet pleco he lives with gets most of that usually. I also have a really thick green algae growth on the back of my tank that the royal eats almost constantly. Im pretty sure he is getting enough food, but I just added a couple hiding spaces, in case he was getting stressed by his tankmates.

he might be getting bullied by the scarlet... they are quite territorial at times. but then if he doesnt look stressed i duno. can you post a pic.

I must be having the same problem. I just came home from work to notice my royal died. :swear: I dont understand, This is the third. My first was 10" and died from ich. The second was 4" and died in my koi pond, and now my 5 1/2" died for some unknown reason. The water is clean, there is tons of drift wood. I feed em shrimp pellets and hikari algae disks. I guess they are very delicate plecos. I bought him for $30 at about 4". Had him for good 5 months. Always active and eating. I"ve heard that they are way more sensitive then other plecos and are very prone to disease. Heres some pics of him.

Only sometimes. Right now he is full. I added some salt and have been giving him a garlic and algae tab puree every day. We will see how that goes. I hear royals are really susceptible to built up organic waste, so mabye yours died from nitrates? Who knows. Sensitive little buggers. Here are some pics of him and the scarlet he is with.
