NOW that i see these old pics i can see that the "spikes" in the pics on the face are almost all gone now!!!!!! any idea what could have caused this??????? he was in cold temperatures and in a very low PH tank for some time, could this have caused it???? will they grow back???

Those are called odontones and they will grow back if the fish is in top quality condition. They seem to grow quickly on large male panaque when they are in breeding condition.

ok cool I hope those grow back soon though be4cause his water conditions are great now.

so would 2 or 3 royal plecos get along together in a 125 or a 180Gallon??

Yes, there will be some aggression if you put 3 large panaques in the same tank but it should be manageable. The main issue is whether or not you can handle to incredible amount of fish poop.

I would use the 180 for three adult royals. Gotta dilute all that output that they are so good at making.

ok so 3 would work... one more question though... would 2 in a 180 be better that 3 of them???

lol, I mean yes for you both financially and as fas as your WC schedule. Three could be manageable if you have the right equipment and water change routine.
