Your fish are better off with the softer Malaysian drift wood. Hard woods like manzanita can wear out their teeth.

I was just thinking about something similar.....
Manzanita is a really hard wood. Do they need/benefit from harder woods, or would cypress, or malaysian drift be as good.

for the sake of the fish and to avoid problems soft wood is better for them. They will rasp on any type of wood from my experience with them. The sifter woods are better then the harder woods for them.

Ok let me start by saying....you guys are right about manzanita....it's hard, hard enough to be used as macaw perches. Manzman's wood has the bark removed and after soaking it is NOWHERE near as hard as you think. My Royal pleco is as happy as can be (and quite plump) grazing manzanita all day long. I can dig my thumbnail into the wood. Mine ignored malayasian wood for 17 years. How do I know? the manzanita gets pooped out prolifically adding a "snow" effect to the tank when my Geo dig it up. Time for a water change. Get the manzanita...you and your royal will be glad you did.

A friend of mine today told me that the wood must be treated in some way before you put it in the tank, I did not understand what the treatment was, but maybe like you sad manzaman takes of the bark of his wood, and that mite make some differes ? Because I have malaysian wood and mine never goes on it.

Bark is removed.

Hi I still have not got my manzanita wood, because the pieces I seem to want are always sold and now thier is a new problem because manzman told me that I cant get a larger piece than 2feet because of the shipping:( and to make things worse my car broke down, so for now I will have to leave the wood until I fix the car first
