Royals may take some time to settle in, but get pretty bold once they do. One of my L191s wouldn't come out of his corner for months and I had to target feed him. Now that he has put on some size he bulldozes all the others out of the way at feeding time.

I agree. I have a small, 3" one that I can only ever see its face once in a while, a 9" one who has a movement area of about a foot from what I can tell, and an 11" one that is crazy and as soon as any kind of food hits the water he is out bulldozing his way around. Not a very graceful species compared to my L095, or Rhino... or well, any other aquatic creature I have seen. hahaha

Im glad to here these guys will settle in. Mine is still very shy but I did find a food he loves. Repashy Morning wood. If you have a panaque you may want to give it a try. Took my guy a few times to find out where I feed but now he eats every bit of it.

Mine has recently taken to green beans and samples the shrimp/fish I put in for my Pseudacanthicus plecos. Lately they've all been enjoying watermelon rind as well. With 9 plecos in the tank I go thru a zucchini daily.

My royal shares a tank with a snowball and and a green phantom and they all love the driftwood but I feed cucumber zucchini blood worms and algae wafers they love it my phantom is the only one to really suck on algae on glass

I just got a Royal L191 and Green phantom L200. The Green phantom eats everything but the royal doesn't seem to be eating. What do you feed? if I may ask.
I have a few different pieces of drift wood in the tank and I have tried zucchini. and yellow squash. Potatoes and apples along with pleco waffers and shrimp pellets. Plus everything I feed the other fish.
Im starting to get concerned. Its been a week and I have yet to see him eat anything but maybe some algae on the back glass. I can see his tracks in the glass.
Royals eat wood and all the extra crud that builds up on wood. Thats basically their main diet

Be careful with the blood worms. They can cause bloat.

Stick to the veggies and sinking pellets. Nice looking fish
Yah bro I just feed my other fish the blood worms but sometimes I see it go down for the left overs I doubt he's consuming a lot of them
