a piranha knock over a rock ? good luck piranha.

Rocks are HEAVY last i checked. Assuming you place it so it has a decent area sitting flat on the bottom i don't think a piranha will knock over anything.



For god's sake some of the suggestions i've been seeing on here are absolutely rediculous today (not just the piranha forum) what the hell have people been smoking today ?
 
How many sides are on your definition of a cave and what are you making yours out of? I wouldn't stand a 6x12x1 piece of slate on its side and expect it to stand there when a 8 inch fish isn't happy. Even a badly placed plastic decoration hitting the tank at the right spot can break it.
 
funny thread. when i think of caves i think of the guy who has 2 rhoms and a few rbp in the same tank. in the pics, the rhoms are in rock caves. warlord, id do fake hollow logs. check the reptile section at your stores. i use one
 
check into something i got in the reptile section, i think it is called grapevine wood or something like that. looks wacky and actually sinks after like a week, but you might get light fungus all over it, but it isnt harmful and goes away after a month. looks awesome too, a few pieces like 4 feet long were 12 bucks. my fish love it, but yes remember any pretty scaping you do will be knocked over. mine even cracked the plastic overflow box thingy in my tank.

I have two 180 one in which fulled with 12 red bellied piranhas and its bare with black gravel there one plant but that's it it helps them become less skittish
 
I have a 55g with 4 RBP in is with drift wood and a lot of rocks and plants and the only time that I have had a problem with injury was one was a fin nibble thats it. As long as you don't keep messing with the environment they will be okay with what you do with that tank as long as there is not too much light that stresses the fish out. Good luck and love the tank! I have had more bits out of my fake plants than my 10 real plants that are in the tank. I love my real plants in the tank with them it adds a lot to the natural effect on the beautiful RBP.

piranhas NEED cover to be healthy and unstressed denying them cover qualifies in my books as cruel and unnusual punishment. Whether this cover comes in the form of caves of rock or driftwood or plants the piranhas don't care.

There not going to bang into them all day they understand the concept of solid objects (other than glass which they can't see)

piranhas dont need cover to stay healthy
i guess you have kept piranhas in only one type of setup,thats the reason for your view. ive got 2 tanks with rbp, one is a bare tank without any plants/rocks/wood and one is a amazon type setup ,i can tell you there is no difference in health between the two groups and the ones in the bare tank is far less skittish.even chase fingers when hungry.

there is nothing about being paranoid.its just people giving their opinions:chillpill:

when i first put my log in, all 8 piranhas use to hang out in it together, now that they're bigger, only the smallest fits in it. It stays there all day except when it comes out to eat.

How are your's with the log cave?
 
log works great for now, curing my driftwood then planning to put that in, my p's are growing quite a bit and not as afraid of me, hoping to get some good pix up soon
