Dont give up!!!!I had the same problem with a fish i really liked,Texas cichlids everytime i got one it lasted a few days and died,well after about a dozen or so trys i finally was able to keep one for over a year(it grew to about 6 inches,i just traded it in and got me a new TSN(wich i really love!!)

stick with the red tails awesome fish i have lost 2 over the years and was gutted but stick with em it will be well worth it.

SAME HERE BROTHER I HAD TWO MYSELF AND SOMETHING BIZZARE HAPPENS TO ME ALSO I FOUND ONE AT A PET STORE AND THEY DIDNT KNOW WHAT THEY HAD, IT WAS PRICED THE SAME AS A ALBINO CHANNEL CAT. I BOUGHT IT AND TOOK IT HOME AND PUT IT IN A CYCLED 10 GALLON TANK TILL I GOT MY OLD 150 GALLON SET-UP ,DIDNT HAVE A CAP ON MY HOB FILTER TUBE AND IT SWAM UP THE TUBE AND DIED WHILE I WAS SLEEP AND THE OTHER ONE I HAD MY WIFE OVERFEED HIM WHILE I WAS OUT OF TOWN AND HE HIS BELLY SPLIT OPEN ,TELL ME THATS NOT CRAZY!!! AND THEY ARE HARD TO GET WERE I LIVE
