That sucks, I would be really p1ssed if something ate my aro. There are quiet a few pics of RTC eating large and larger tank mates, evil fish these RTCs
Agree with everyone that this is not too surprising. The tank must have been on the small side? Usually with plenty of space such occurrences are extremely rare. E.g., a subadult / adult silver aro would fit into a subadult / adult RTC mouth but IDK of a single case where this happened. Anyone?
IMHO fish cannot be evil by definition To be evil one has to know good from bad and do the bad thing. We put them in the cages and they adapt their natural programmed behavior to captivity. They are very much just biological machines run by instincts. Extremely little play room there.
