I am just curious about the RTC. I have a few questions....

1) I saw a RTC at Petland Discount for sale at 3 inches long for $69.99 my question is , is that a fair price for a 3 inch RTC? or is that a serious rip off?

2) Can a RTC and a Channel Cat and a Pleco Live together at the same size?

3) Is there anyone or anywhere where I can get an RTC for less than $69.99 LMAO :screwy:
Yes, for a VERY short time. But keep in mind, I've seen a 12" RTC eat an 8" RTC. Make sure the pleco is pretty large and the channel cat has a serious size advantage because RTC's just eat and do not think.

Your lfs is ripping you off. You can get them from vendors on here for $10-$15, but with shipping it would bring you close to that price, I special ordered mine at the LFS, and it was 1.5" at $25. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't even begin to think of RTC growth rates in terms of how many inches per month because they DON'T have a constant growth rate. RTC's IME go on big growth spurts that can put on as much as 3" in a single month and then can stay the same size for as long as two months.

Powerfeeding is a VERY VERY bad idea with a fish thats as bad at self regulation as the RTC.. It won't grow faster by the way...but it WILL get fat and eventually develope health problems.

Read the second line in my signiture carefully...this is NOT a joke. If you want to keep a RTC you NEED to know this.

To get back to the question at hand...generally speaking...the average RTC grows about 18" in the FIRST year...10" the following year and then the growth drops off dramaticly after that. (4" per year or less is common.)

I wanna keep a small RTC with a Channel Cat and a Largemouth Bass . I am just curious if I was to keep the RTC with those two fish would there be a problem with PH? From what I am reading the RTC prefers Acidic 6.2- 6.8 PH and currently my Channel Cat and Largemouth Bass are living in a PH hardness of 7.4. Will this be a problem or can the RTC adapt?
