Don't keep feeding the rtc because they are opportunistic eaters. They believe in their mind that they have to eat every single thing that is placed in front of them because they might not see food for a long time. Just feed him until his belly is full, not bloated. They will literally eat themselves to death if feeding is continued in that sitting. That, or they will throw up all of the contents during the night and potentially kill everything in the tank with an ammonia spike. I only feed mine every other day.
yes, unscheduled water change!

I have currently a 14'' that literally goes crazy if i dip the food in the water before feeding, we feed everyday 12 chopped in half smelts currently. If i put too much food in there it will literally eat until its no longer capable of swimming correctly. You have to watch for that, its nice to see them have full bellies, but know that is their weakness, they will literally eat until they throw up, if mine throws up the water is so bad we have to change the water then, we have to cancel any plans that night,
just remember they do nothing but grow their entire lives, once they top of in length they will start growing side ways, I go to china town and we go to this korean market and buy shrimp and smelt by the pound its way cheaper to find it this way, we feed nothing but whole freezed live food. Its def. cheaper
