rtc in a pond

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh, and what are the dimensions? Because I have a 400g water trough, and even that probably wouldn't be big enough for a RTC. Your pond might be too cramped.

Depending on demensions 500 prob won't work with a outdoor pond you should be considering 1000+ with at least a 3ft depth to help with temp consistency. Even if temps get into the 60's you are going to need heating. Which is very expensive especially outdoors.

If your filter is "big enough" for a 500 than it more than likely isn't big enough to handle a rtc. They are extremely messy so you will need lots of bio filtration.

The goldfish will probably become meals. These fish can get to 5' if taken care of properly, so your pond is too small. Why don't you look into something smaller, preferably something that doesn't mind the 60F winters?

the pond is like 3.5 feet deep by 7 feet by like 4 feet
Is it a square/ rectangle shape? Same depth throughout? If it is that is like 700 gal.
I don't see it working out honestly. Your filtration is lacking and to heat the pond in winter is going to cost whoever pays the bills a lot of money.

ahh yes phoenix some of my family lives there..its nice and as its been lately you might need to bump the temp up a bit more since the highest i seen in AZ is 64 i believe..but um other than that yea why not i think a 500 gallon pond might just due her..
