ok so my plan is to buy a 5ft large aquarium for a baby redtail catfish, not sure were i even purchase a baby from?? can anyone tell me..??

also is there any links on here of people in the uk keeping them in heated ponds outside? or maybe with some sort roofing.. etc for when they get large................

i have built 2 ponds before but obviously it would have to meet specific requriments with this project....

so anyone on here keep them in heated ponds once big??? links please would be great..

forget 5ft tank, anything less than 8ft long by 3 wide is a waste of money, if you already had 5ft it would be ok for a few months but thats it.
If you are serious get pond first (it will take thousands per year to heat unless you have a room/outbuilding purpose built with loads of insulation).
It would make more sense to get a channel cat and keep it in a large standard pond.

Put a large tank in a shed that's what I have done 8 long x 6 wide x 3 deep

Have a look in the projects section of the forum my thread is called 1000 us gal tank build project

I heat the shed and 4 x 500w heaters in the sump

T1KARMANN, saw ur project wow, looks impressive, i was thinking something similar but a pond tank sunk in the ground and then some sort of shelter shed over the top....? are the heating bills rediculous? what do u think my idea..

forget outdoor tropical ponds in the uk - im building a 'brick' shed for one as it will reduce the heating costs - breeze block is cheap and does the job.

ok it sounded a good idea, u could do it if u had a massive huge glass greenhouse but again talking tens of thousands...just a pond in a shed doesnt quite have the same effect to me..

Your talking serious money on heating bills! if were to do it electric elements wouldn't be the way to go. Reverse cycle/ heat pump Ac coil or gas boiler. Would have to have a roof on it with well insulated Walls ( 2 " polystyrene/ cavity insulation. Un less you do what the dope growers do and feed before the meter
