OP says it was a trade in, meaning the LFS did not make it like that, came in that way. RTC's are pretty good at pulling around. They get to looking bad quick, but pull around quickly too.

I dunno... just an idea.
I like that idea...

But ye id pass it sounds very very messed up, i know its difficult to see an animal like that which looks doomed and you want to help it but its best to leave it.
I don't understand what the clown knife has to do with this subject? It wasn't real smart of you to have a knife half the size of your RTC together... anyone on here that knew RTC's would have told you that was tempting fate.
Dragonfish obviously has the room for it...
So Dragon, its really up to you. If you want an RTC I think this would be a good opportunity to own one, its going to have the same, if not slightly better chance at survival than if you bought a 2-3" juvi RTC to growout, as its larger, thus more stable, and all the things you mentioned can be turned around pretty simply. Its just weather or not you feel like putting the time and effort into it.
Heres an RTC that was at an LFS, first two was when it first came in, third is after a few weeks. By then most all the amonia burn had healed and the eyes had began to clear up. Whiskers had already grown back, and fins had begun to heal, although short they looked much better.
