RTC shedding slime coat

Yeah, sounds fine from every person i've heard of with a RTC that does this... something could have just spooked him, as long as he's eating and active I wouldn't worry about it, some people report they do this often for years in huge ponds for no apparent reason.


oh i thought it could be a problem cause ive never seem any of my rtcs do that so offten
 
Could be anything irritating the skin. A trace of heavy metal in the water, automotive exhaust from a nearby road, even tree pollen not encountered in his native waters. I'm always amazed at how much isn't known. Best of luck with your slimy cat. :(

thanks i think it was because we moved him to a much bigger tank moved him from a 180-265 till the other indoor pond is done and he seems to have stopped doing it now and might have been because we had to pick him up not net him could have been something on our hands right?
 
RTC will shed their slime coats when spooked or stressed. He should be fine as long as you keep up the water quality and also keep him on a good diet. it is not out of the norm.
