RTC sick --- help

raise it slowly over the next couple days to 84-86. Are the red spots bumps, or sores? Salt does work, if you feel his life is in danger add 1 tbsp of evaporated sea salt per 5 gals of water. Also daily water changes. RTC are tough, but I have found that when they get sick they will deteriorate very fast unless you conduct tons of water changes. Also what size tank is he in. He might be producing more waste than your filtration can handle and thus causing ammonia burns on his body. Also check for uneaten food as it can foul the water and make him sick. Hope some of this helps.

Right now all the fish are in a 125g. The red spots seem to be bumps. i have not seen any open sores yet like i have seen on other catfish over the years. i changed about 30% water last night and found a piece of old food buried in the back of the tank. obviously took that out. i have a Eheim canister professional 2 running on the tank now, as well as a sump running. there is plenty of filtration. have not put salt in yet, as i did not have any on hand. my rtc looked the same this morning, which is better the the worse progression i have seen over the last 3 days or so...

Sounds like he at least stabalized. You should slowly notice him getting better.
