I know that we need at least 1000g to house one RTC. But can we still get away with a 800g to house a single RTC for live?Am I pushing it?

Well i think part of it will come down to what the dimensions of the 800 are?

i know of a 4' rtc in a 10x4x3 (900gal us) and i certainly wouldn't want to try and put it in anything smaller!

so even say 1000g is actually not big enough right?I am not familiar using inch or feet, so let say if I have 2.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 meters which will make roughly 1400g then it should be sufficient enough for a single rtc for life no ? I am willing to built an all glass tank for it, considering the glass cost is not that expensive in where I live now,
and I dont want to put the RTC as it reaches its maximum size in the pond cause I cant see it.
I wonder how thick will the glass be, if I make it that size..

Just a bit.

So to the op, this is how tight it'd be 15 years down the line with your rtc in a 900 if you get a big one, so 800 might not last for life.

1000gal seems to be the accepted minimum but really the bigger the better. Depth of 1.5 will be very thick glass!

Is 2.5 (just over 8ft) the longest you can go or could you stretch it to 3.0? (10ft)

Not a problem.

amazing girth on that thing.. I'd say you're better of with a pond.. 2,5 x 1,5 x 1,5 would probably last a loooong time and things can always happen.. but if you decide to go all glass try 3x1,5x1 instead.. same gallons but more surface..

I have a very large pond in my backyard which I could fit 5 RTCs or more, but its currently full with KOI, so the pond is not possible. Besides the KOIs is not mine, I wish I could just put all the monster fish in there and eat all those KOIs, lol.
I though of having a separate pond for the RTC but again it limits my viewing to the fish.
So I guess a very big tank would be cool for a big cat.
I could also stretch the length up to 3 m, is a good option though.
