Good luck with him though, they're a rather shy fish, but they tend to surprise you when they get bigger. Like I said, mine was vicious at night. All day he'd just hide under rocks, then at night I'd hear him attacking fish. One night I watched him in the dark for awhile. He'd swim all around the tank and as soon as he got close to something he'd ram into it.
I ended up trading my 12" for a 4" SA RTC. At least this way when he grows up he can live peacefully with my other cats. i wasn't ready to dedicate a 1000g pond to one fish.
for me it was opposite. I had some ARTC caught and brought them home. RTC did not appreciate their company. Seems that ARTC can not compete for food. all ARTCs were dead within couple of months. RTC just used to sit (literaly) on them.
Perhaps i will try again but i am sure the outcome would be the same ... plus it is rather troublesome to get a live 3' ARTC ...
Heard different things with ARTC, main point being don't keep with other catfish! An ARTC with mid and top level swimmers has worked before so i hear, and i also heard of someone putting an ARTC with their SARTC of similar size and the ARTC used to pick on the SARTC until one night the SARTC just lost it and went to town on and killed the ARTC.
