I got a rtc x tsn recently off of a fellow hobbyist that was bringing it in to a lfs. The former owner claimed it never ate cause he never seen it eating. So now its been in my 75 alone. I got it eating trout worms and bloodworms. I want to get it onto other foods but not to sure what would be a good diet. I've tried hikari carnivore pellets but got no where. What other foods can I try and how would I go about getting him to eat pellets.

Ok ill try those. I think he will eat the silver sides cause he did eat one of my baby green terrors when I first put it in the tank.

These are predatory and carnivorous with a marked preference for fleshy foods - more like a TSN that way (its mother species) than RTC (the father species). In the presence of choice, they usually choose or wait for the fleshy foods. When starved a bit, they can be retrained to take pellets as many report. Starving and retraining should begin with a fish in good health and form. Otherwise, many stuff pellets into the fleshy foods and the fish swallows the whole thing. Some claim this trick also makes it easier to wean them off onto pellets.

F1Vet has a nice thread on it.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking about stuffing his worms with pellets. It might work out easier then the starving method.

Earthworms? I imagine that may be hard to do. Trout appears easier. What size is the fish?

(OTT: was it you I recommended Aquarium and Puppy Center to?)

No trout worms. Its an easy 7"

Yeah I am. I never got a chance to check it out though.

Viktor, just out of interest, how do you know that the TSN is used as the mother and RTC as the father? I know that there are always some reasons but I'd like to know for this one.

What's a trout worm?

(Let me know, if you will, how you find it if you ever make it out there, please.)
