RTC x TSN Ich

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Will do, they are being active and swimming around when the lights are off, 1 did eat a blood worm or two. But i sucked them out to prevent any spikes. Will probably do another 50-60% water change, but dont want to stress them out much doing that. They have 3 pvc pipes to hide in as well as a sponge filter and a flower pot.

Temps have been 85 degrees for 24 hours, how long does it normally take for the ich to detach and then die without a host?

You are looking at at least a few days if not a week. be patient, ich is stubborn but easy to cure.

Trying to be, just hate seeing them suffer. They haven't ate today and with them being smaller I worry about how long they can go.i'm Sure being weakened will keep the stress up :(

Ich has all fallen off the body, how long should I keep the temp up? I will be doing water changes and putting carbon back in the filter.

I would lower the tempature a little bit at a time over a few days.

7-10 days. Just cause it's gone doesn't mean it a dead. Just be patient.

So lower temp or keep it same while the ich dies? I'm happy now, they are active and eating again. Just want to make sure that stuff is dead so it won't spring back to life and get em again lol.

Everyone's experience differs a lot or a little and that's fine and expected.

In the opinion of experts in our field (and hence IMO) and IME, the scaleless versus scaled fish medicating differences are an urban myth and self-propagating misinformation even though it is even put on meds bottle labels http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=41623#p283736 (E.g., Racoll in this thread is Rupert A. Collins, a Ph.D. in Ichthyology.) Perhaps there are cases where the difference may be observed but these cases appear convoluted (more factors at play, hence hard to draw conclusions) and rare.

You would benefit also from reading the stickies in this forum for more on ich, salt, etc. written by trusted experts on MFK, including on salt, ich, etc.: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?35-Freshwater-Diseases-and-Health-Issues I find these very helpful, especially when there is a disagreement between us, the common hobbyists.

I used to "observe" that my Doradidae, raphs and large ones, were intolerant of salt even at 1/3 of a medicating dose. This was corroborated by statements on some websites, e.g., Dr. Johnson's koi vet site which spoke of salt treatments and listed the spp that are sensitive to salt including raphs. Yet after years I've come to realize my Doradids were dying from an infection, not from salt. The ich infestation was simply concurrent with the bacterial infection. Primary or secondary, does not matter. I just wasn't treating my fish right or it was too late.
