I just got a Red Tailed Tiger Shovelnose Hybrid and was wondering how big of a tank I would need for him. Also would it be ok to keep him in a 10 gallon for about 3 days then putting him in a 55 gallon until I can find a bigger tank? He is only 3 inches long and I know that they grow pretty fast I am going to get and indoor pond for him because a tank big enough for him is way out of my budget.

I want to add that the fish will only be in the 55 for about 3 months and I am wondering if that wouldn't be terrible or it won't grow way to big to do that.

Itd be close but I say go for it. If were a rtc I would say no way in hell. But I think u should be fine with your plan. How big is your indoor pond?

It's a round 1500 gallon and I am going to set it up very soon. I'm forgetting the diameter right now though. I am going to line it with some smooth round rocks and a few large river rocks. Would that be big enough for a few year though?

that pond should last him a while..... i would say its a risk putting it in the 55 for but it should be good... just set up that pond ASAP...

That's good I would I only have him in the 55 for a month tops. Just so I can cycle the pond and get some starter fish in there and make sure everything is good. Also in the long run I was wondering if I could add in a rtc and tsn as well?

Actually it isn't 1500 it's 1200 but i just measured out the dimensions in my basement and it is pretty big. It's going to be 8'x8'x30". Just incase I wrote that wrong, it's 30 inches tall. That isn't exact though because it's going to be a little bigger and we are going to make it round.
