I said cant because i meant cant as in not possible -that type of hybrid is made not bred.
im not having a go about hybrids-though i am personally against them.
what i am saying is that unless you are a genetesist you cant produce a paroon/rtc.
if you can direct me to scientific literature that says different i would be glad to read it and better my knowledge-ok?
with regards to all the pims my point is if you want something out of the ordinary there is plenty of natural stuff to go at many with more striking appearence than those more commonly available.:)
O.K., then do you know how it is made? I dont have any scientific literature to prove anything, but would love to see some on hybrids. Do YOU have any scientefic literature to prove they are made?
P.S. I don't want to offend anyone, just trying to get info.
P.P.S. If you have any info, please post it!

Between posts i have been looking for a site to suggest to you-unfortunately they mostly seem to be extreme views about the ethics of hybrids which does not help your cause at all.
If you google "catfish hybridisation" you will find an article in the top ten that mentions clarius farming with hormones.
the hormones trigger spawning in true fish in situatios when the natural parameters are not being met - like on rtc farms for the food industry.
However the big problem with widely different species like rtc/paroon is getting the males genetic material to the egg.the sperms can be brought in contact with the egg but for cell division to take place the sperm must. penetrate the egg and the dna be combined. Under natural conditions the wall of the egg prevents any "alien" sperms from penetrating-even weak true sperms will strugle to get through.
how the fertilisation is achieved on an industrial scale im not sure -possibly the egg walls are destroyed with chemicals or in a centrofuge and then sperm cells added.
For a single fertilisation the sperm can literally be injected into the egg like in human artificial insemination-but with differing species i would assume there is further tampering.
this is why i was saying you cant just introduce the fish to a breeding enviroment and get young, even if you get spawning behavior there will not be fertilisation.
to give a very crude example if a zoo keeper pops into the chimp enclosure you dont get a type of "ape man"-just a surprised chimp!
hope this helps a bit.
if you are a student why not try running this past a biology teacher?

Cool, thanks Im looking at it now. Ill ask my bio teacher, but something tells me she doesn't know. She usually doesn't know much more than the bare minimum.

why do you want the hybrids? have a look at pims on planet catfish-there are more than you may think ,many of which have been kept by very few people-contact a specialist importer and see what they can get you-why bother with hybrids if you havent kept all the natural species?

I know what you're saying, there's natural pims i'd like to own too but getting hold of them has proved difficult or incredibly expensive even though the juvies are probably caught in the wild alongside rtc and tsn.

There is an appeal to owning a hybrid catfish. Seeing a cross between 2 species and it's resultant behaviour is kinda fastinating, especially something obscure like a paroonxrtc that's an active mid level swimmer.

Satan's goldfish, Ive heard that too. That would make an albino 1/10000 eggs. Idk how many eggs these cats have, but I'm willing to risk not getting these eggs. after all, I want both of these anyways. P.S., ill be sure to get 1 to you ;). Do you know what thread it was? I would like to look at it.

Can't remember exactly, i think it started off about identifiying a couple of different pangasius somebody had in an outdoor pond somewhere like thailand or malaysia. A couple of us accidently hijacked it to talk about what hybrid cats would be great. Think i ended up on rtc x albino wels!

So Ive been googling and reading articles on Pangasius and found some good info. Not so much with rtc, though. What size do you think they need to be to breed? And what age is that attainable at?
