okay so i have a rtc hybrid ive had for like almost 5 months, and hes gone from less than 2 inches to like a SOLID 14". he was eating cichlid pellets, sticks, massivore, tilapia, and shrimp with an occasional couple big goldfish. i just moved him from his 40b growout, to my 500g tank. he thrashed and was a little stressed during the move, but he only needed to go like 3 feet. hes out and about but wont eat anything. i dont know if its the different water conditions, or different substrate, or what but hes in with prob 100 goldfish, and wont touch shrimp or massivore. its been 3 days and he wont touch food, he sucks up massivore, but spits it out. what is irresistable to these guys? i just need him to eat and hes making me nervous since he would smash anything and everything before! please help

Ive heard prawns in garlic works for them, someone will pop up and tell you.
Dav.

Mine have gone through this with tank transfers, it seems to be normal. Also they seem to do this from time to time for a week or less strait for no aparent reson. What are your water perameters and did he swallow something he shouldn't have? If they are good and he didn't eat your heater or other things that are not food I wouldn't worry, he will eat again. These guys at that size could probably go more than a couple of weeks with out food.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Ya, don't panic fish aren't like mammals, they can survive without food for a long time. Three days isn't anything, he will get hungry and then he will eat. I wouldn't worry until its been like three weeks.

One other thing, when he does decide to eat he is going to blow up after eating 100 plus golds. He will be hungry and will eat them all in one night. Might want to leave him only a few.

i just worry, cuz normally he is like a vacume and will eat everything, he also is getting a little skinny, thanks for the tips though, at what point should i worry? i know he didnt eat anything bad, and the water def isnt any worse than what he was in.

Is this in your new tank? If so test it ASAP. If all is good wait a week, he will make it. I did loose a large RTC to rocks I added to a tank, all water pers where good, it must haved leached something. Something else to look at.

ummm only thing thats really diff is the play sand, but i washed and washed it, and if its safe for kids to sit in all day, i figure its okay for my fish

I have never used it but many people do, I think it's fine.
