what do you guys think? i haven't done it, but i have a pair of RTMs and well i would be really interested to see what fry from an RTM and gold mota look like...
is that hybridizing?

I wouldn't thinks so. They would still be parachromis motaguense with different strain of color IMO but if you do make it happen hit me up for some fry :D

I'm not sure if it would technically be a hybrid but it would be different than any wild fish... Might as well be a hybrid in my book

If you do it make sure you label the offspring as such and distribute them to people together enough to properly label them.

Hybrid - (genetics) an organism that is the offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock; especially offspring produced by breeding plants or animals of different varieties or breeds or species.

They're genetically dissimilar varieties, seems to fit the bill of hybrid to me.

yeah it technically would be a hybrid since they would be 2 parents from distinct races, which qualifies as the definition of a hybrid...something I didn't know until a couple of days ago.

Besides, I think all you'd find is that a percentage would turn out RTM and the rest would be Gold...similar to when you breed pink to black cons....you get about 60-70% black cons and the rest are pink.

;)

So a White person x Black person = a Hybrid?

I wouldn't think this would be classified as a hybrid if both parents are the same species.

No, this would not be considered a hybrid, your batch of frys will consist of both gold and red offsprings, it depends on which color gene is dominant at time of fertilization dependent on a individual egg basis.

I agree.... Man I thought I was bad about hybridization. Im not going to think that its a bad thing to mix 1 wild variant with another. I mean how do you think such variants evolved in the first place....

i would think it wouldn't be a hybrid since they're the same species of fish. i also kind of hope that it's not a situation were some fry are gold and others are red. i think the two mixed would be pretty cool.
