So I'm fairly new to the hobby and after searching all over the internet I have a question that I haven't seen answered.

I have a 55 gal tank and knew that I wanted to get a redtail black shark, but when I went to my local aquarium store, the guy recommended that I buy two of them because he said that they tend to get overly stressed if they are transported by themselves. I probably should have done a bit more research, but long story short I have two RTS and they seem to be doing great. I see a little bit of aggression from time to time, but for the most part they are friendly towards one another and they are showing great color. This leads me to believe there isn't much of an issue. I've had them now for about six months.

Anyway my question is that occasionally I see them doing what I call "a little dance" with one another. They kind of twitch in little burts every half second or so. It doesn't look dangerous or anything, and I have yet to have any serious issues with water quality or anything, so I was curious if maybe this was some sort of mating display or something? They both do it next to each other for maybe 5 seconds and then swim off in their separate ways... Anyone have any ideas?

I'm going to try and see if I can grab a video and post it later tonight. Thanks!

From what I'm reading they are most likely sizing each other up and showing dominance redtail sharks although peaceful with other fish are very territorial and aggressive towards there own kind and it is usually suggested that its one to a tank although in large tank I have seen them live together given there is enough hiding space and room to claim their own I had 2 redtails and 1 albino shark in my 180 gallon tank and It worked fine due to all the hiding spot I provided and driftwood and plants there was a little aggression during feeding time when they came out but they lived together quite well I'd say if you have a large enough tank like 75 or up with a bunch of hiding spot you should be fine and they should be okay just them showing a little dominance
