rubbermaid tanks/ponds what is the point??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really enjoy just watching ponds to relax , but I do often find myself wishing I could see the fish from a different angle, and I think you do have a point about some fish being scared about people being over head because they tend to swim downwards towards the bottom when people come near , but some people may not be able to afford huge custom tanks for their fish to I think rubber maid can be a good alternative,
I think if you had some rays it would be better to view them from overhead anyways.

Maybe you could try some goggles and stick your head in?:D

i think its just that the addiction brings you to the brink of being broke then you start with used tanks and then you move on to rubber maid ponds then plywood pond with pond liners then to digging a hole in your backyard all part of the obsession
*oops* i mean hobby

I'll tell the point. The point is....this thread is in the wrong forum. :screwy:

Really it's not a big deal though, I just wanted to add to the thread. ;)

i don't use ponds primarily for display, but there great for rays- for all fish really, the footprint and size is SO much better that your average rectangular aquarium the overall surface space for the fish to swim is great. fish kept in aquariums they can barely turn around in, don't get the chance to swim freely like in ponds. sure it isn't the wild but keeping fish in properly kept and mantained ponds is So much better for the fish. Not everyone has 10k to spend on a show tank for there pbass and such, but a $150 6'x5'x2' rubbermaid is very acceptable. and they are the staple choice for Importers and breeders, for space and price.

i think your angry and jelous you can't find any ;) LOL:.

well to me a tank is a piece of scenery. I like to look at them, and aqua scape and I spend alot on lighting etc to bring all this togethor. an outdoor pond is cool, but a rubbermaid imo dosent look right in the house, also where do you get 10 thousand dollar custom tanks from? a rubber maid is 300 gallons, add that amount of filtration and your up to a nice number. a 300 gallon tank is around 1800 with the sump built in. I know a place selling 220's with the cabinets, T5's filter etc for $1500 Canadian all day everyday. saying that for fish too large for a tank a pond is a good choice? which fish has to have 300gallons but dosent need anymore than that? I just dont get it. I guess over the years I learned the hard way that its better to spend the money and get what you really wanted cuz eventually you'll need/want bigger and now your also paying for 1 or 2 set ups. I went from 1 ten to 2 tens to 3 10's and 2 20's and than 4 29g's and a 55 and eventually it hit me. for half the money I spent on tanks and filters I coulda easily bought a 180 or 240gallon tank. its not the pond part that gets me, I LOVE ponds outdoors with koi and such but indoor rubber maids is what I meant.

You just said it! It's personal preference.
The end.

What's the point of having a pond in your garden without fish in it?

That's me.... I can't find one anywhere near me....... :irked:

I currently have both and everyone has already echoed my thoughts.... One of my short comings is that I am soooo impulsive when it comes to this hobby. I had a wild hair one day and decided to build a DIY pond in my garage, just as a holding tank and to have a different perspective of my fish.... after a while it's another box to check. And to duplicate that gallonage in a tank would take me to the poor house! More gallonage, more fish.....
