I dont have the room or $$ for a real decent 75-200 gallon fish tank but do have some deck space for a decent 100-300 gallon rubbermaid tub. I am planning on keeping the following species:
Bluegill possibly
Black crappie possible
Maybe a LMB if i get a 500g tub
snails
native plants to GA
rosy reds
maybe more?

I already have the filer solved, but dont know what i'll do for the heating if needed or lighting. It will be on cement under my deck that receives little light so we will have to get creative

hmm sounds good

Heating in the summer not likely needed but you'll definitely need a chiller because its not going to matter if its in the sun or not because the water temp will rise to match the air temp. 70*-80* night time temp and 80*-90*+ daytime temps = dead fish. The Rosey reds will be gone fast in a tub with any of the other fish you listed. Put the tub in the ground or just make yourself a nice little pond and you should be ok.

thanks for advise on the chiller Gator i never woulda thought of that. Im still debating on wether putting it in ground or in shade under the deck? i would worry less on predators under the deck b/c its higher off the ground there but looks not as attractive.

no. I mean this winter was unusually cold going into the 10's (lmao i know what u guys are thinking im a former New Yorker) but there was no freezing and if there was i could transport the fish to indoor tanks. Just thinking about wether to bury it or leave it in shade 24/7? Any ideas on that?

Shade would be great, but then narrows the plant selection a lot.

Not to jack the thread (although i guess i am)

I always wondered about using rubbermaid storage totes are they actually strong enough to leave them filled with water without re-inforcing?

thats what ive heard, im still going to re-inforce b/c 100-300 gallons near your house can be deadly, well not really but messy. Just use 2 by 4's and your should be fine

They are made to be filled with water and have large animals called cattle drink out of them. I think they will hold up just fine.
