Hey guys I'm new here, just wanted to say hi! I also have a question about breeding ruby red peacoks. I just bought a lovely pair of Ruby reds a few days ago (they are about 5 inches) I was just wondering what I should do to stimulate them to breed. I'm anxious to start breeding peacocks and other hap. cichilds. Thanks guys!

First of all, Welcome to MFK. You will love it here.

As far as the Ruby Reds. They are pretty easy to breed. What size tank are they in? What temp are they at? and, Where are the pictures of them? :D

Haha. Ok. Are they they only fish in the tank? If they are, they'll probably pair up once they get accustomed to their new home. Just keep the water temp stable and make sure your water is clean. I see no need to raise the ph if they are used to tap water. Mine did great in tap and bred all the time. When they spawn, the female will lay some eggs, the male will fertilize them, then the female will pick them up in her mouth and hold them for a while. When she's ready, she'll spit them out and you'll have brand new puppies. It's pretty cool. A lot of the time, if I wanted to keep so fry to grow out, I would put the female in her own tank. That way the male doesn't eat them when she spits.

I have other peacocks and hap. cichlids in there as well... the ph is already at 7.4, so i guess it's just a matter of time. I do water changes every 6-7 days. Is this enough?
