RUGF with sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The puffer would prolly need more sand...like 3.5 inches of it maybe.
But with a burrowing animal RUGF's are kind of sketchy IMO. This ain't first hand experience, just an intuition.

ok, so if the rugf filter is a bad idea, is there any way to keep stuff from settling on the sand? Would a powerhead near the surface of the substrate creating currents on teh bottom work?

I just ordered a #3 Koralia powerhead from Hydor, designed for water movement...I'll post the effectiveness when I find out how well it works for that very thing...

If you have HOBS or a canister (or most filters other than sponge filters and UGF's) and if you sand is very fine then the powerhead might blow the sand into the water column and jam up your filters...

I made the mistake of using reptile sand once. Both my hobs jammed.
