Runitis Datnoid Grow Outs (first time with dats)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I picked up a feew of these as well,

they came in on the india order through spencer jack, they are no Indo Tigers and were not listed as such, they were listed as " Six bar Datnoid " no latin name, from india. They are very young datnioides polota and those can be found in india hence why they came in on an india order. Mine also took to pellets right away, i bought 5, 4 now remain, 3 have tripped in size, the 4th got picked on and has not really grown he's been separated but not sure if he'll bounce back yet.

Some pic's ,

Great fish, hope that helps clear up the confusion, if you prefer IT's i see Spencer updated his list on the 17th with an order from asia and included are some excellent priced Indo's at 1.5"

Spencer does have IT's on his list now though,

Not sure why Spencer stated that these dats are from India, somone might want to show him a world map & point out Indonesia for him. lol

strollo22 is correct, after seeing some pics that Justin sent me these dats are indeed Datnioides microlepis aka Indo dats aka IT's.

Sorry but your mistaken, He said they are from india because they are... and he listed them as sixbars which is a common name for polta , also called AT's, and silver tigers, and they do have a native range in India.

Thanks DC, Datnioides polota, my mistake. That pretty much kills the deal for me as I have no interest in AT's.

That's what I thought on AT that was my initial thoughts but mine are not silver like yours. Well it looks beige to me, since this is supposed to be a grow out thread guess ill go snag some pics

I need to spark up my fish life

Update on my guys mostly the little one. Too much confusion I don't care what they are I would like to know what mine are because they don't look silver too me!

yup look just like mine. I think its a good find.Ill keep 2 out of my 6 and grow them up long term.

I'd recommend keeping 3+ together, they are one of the more agressive datnoid species, with a pair one will liil run the other to death eventualy.

Mine are also not silved, only the little guy who was being picked on is silver ish the others turned much more yellow very quickly, not as deep of a yellow color as my IT or NGT, but i'd say more yellow then silver.

Glad i could help, it took me a few days of just staring at them and comparing them to my IT and various online pictures for me to be sure they were AT's because i was expecting polta to be more of a silver color. I wish i had some money to do another order from him, would love a few more indo's for the growout tank and maybe a couple new bichirs.

luckyyyyy, i just started looking for a couple AT's today, my lfs says they almost never get them in though. im super jealous :P nice fish OP :grinno:

Their color will typically shift as they mature, but I can't say that I have ever seen one in person that I would call silver. Having said that, their color upon maturity is seldom near as striking as some of the other Datnioides, and typically they aren't in near the demand, nor sell nearly as well, which is why many LFS don't stock them.

The AT in the following thread is pretty typical of the coloration (and body shape) of what one can expect as they mature.
