I just cleaned out my canisters today and noticed that last time they were opened I forgot to put the chemical media back in. The tank has been going for 2 months only on filter floss and ceramic rings. Ammonia was 0, Nitrite was 0 but my Nitrates were between 50 and 80. Also, I have only done about 5 or 6 20% water changes these past two months. My question is does anyone out there successfully run without chemical media?

After this thread I think you'll find most run without chemical media. The only chemical media I use is carbon when I need to remove meds. Only Bio and mechanical for me:)

I have carbon in the cabinet for emergencies. I never use it regularly. I fill the space with ceramic rings or something.

same here

Water changes and biological media are all you need - if your tank is dirty after that it's more a reflection of a bad owner, rather than a problem with the waters and fish :)

Wait... you can put chemical media in you tank?:confused::confused:

J/K.... I dont use anything but bio and mechanical.
