Running python upstairs

If you don't have any steps to climb to go outside: Run the hose directly outside... doesn't matter how long it is, as you don't need to suck on the end to start a syphon... let gravity do the work. To start the syphon, put the gravel vacuum in the water, allowing it to fill with water, then lift it up out of the water so that the water flows down the hose, then stick it back quickly in the water again to continue the flow. This is what I do.

I would attatch the pump you were talking about to a hose run the hose outside through the garage and turn on pump wallah water out of tank. Then use python from upstairs to fill the tank. I do this when i do my water changes. I used to use a python syphon starter bulb on end of hose outside then i found it was incredibly faster to just use an old hobby pump connected to a hose to pump water right outside to lawn. On a side note the grass is insanely green in area where i drain to. I actually leave the pump connected to hose then just drop it in and unroll the hose when i need it. I live in minnesota so in winter it builds up quite a bit of ice i have found that if i drain it in an area that doesnt have good grass growth it doesnt bother anything having a 12 inch thick sheet of ice in that section of yard. If you do this in a area with good grass in summer the sheet of ice from draining all winter will kill the grass.
