Hi, I have a sump running on a 110 gallon but i have very small particles running in the water and thought about getting a UV Sterilizer or Diatom Filter. I am trying to save a few bucks by throwing another pump into the sump running at 1300gph(already own) and attaching a 50 micron filter sock at the output which will run back into the sump. Will this work? Or should i just get the Diatom or Sterilizer?

It would work as long as you made sure that if it got clogged the overflow would go into the sump.
just add filter socks on your drain plumbing... if your running a drip tray cut the filter sock and lay it flat on the drip plate.
I have a drip tray so can't really put the sock there. I already have 200 micron pads on the drip tray but its just bypassing somehow, i think i might need a filter only for mechanical filtration...Fluval fx5? lol, go big or go home i say.
thats why i said cut the filter sock from the holding ring and just lay it flat. easy as that, not need to add another filter.
But it will still allow particles to bypass because when it clogs it will wont allow water to filter throw and will overflow from the edges, that is why i wanted to force water through the micron filter sock. Wet Drys are bad at mechanical filtration with pads only
OK, thanks for the answer, truth is i am frustrated with the particles and looking to make 1 last investment and the fx5 seems to be it.
One last investment to get perfectly clear water guaranteed = Diatom filter! My Magnum 350 does an acceptable job at clean water but it doesn't come close to my diatom filter. I can't imagine a FX5 would get any where close to even the Magnum when it comes to particle size.
