Hello everyone. My 55g is cycling now so I would like to get a finalized stocking list. I know what fish I would like, I'm just not sure about the numbers or gender. Hopefully I will not need too many of one species, so I can fit them all. The fish I would like to include are:

Silver Dollars
Bolivian Rams
Angelfish
Cories

Thanks for any input.

I would say loose the SD's. Get 6 angels when young and hopefully get two pairs that will tolerate each other. I would say 2-4 bolivian rams and 4 sterbai cory cats.

I agree with loosing the SD's. I had 4 in a 90gal and they grew very fast and also swim very fast. I think they would bother the angels with their "spastic" movements.
You could also add a school (~10) of cardinal tetras or black neons...

The neons are a great idea for color if you want to keep buying more and more everyday. Angels pray on neon tetras at night in the wild so unless you want to replace them go for it. Burtess is right about SD's and he proved the point not to get them.

Yeah 55's look VERY cool with a big school of colorful fish in there. I like Rummy Nosed Tetras best tho, as they school tighter than the neons and cardinals IME. I have a small school with my GBR's

I wouldn't mix rams with angels tho...and your angels might see the small tetras as appetizers( OOPs sorry Cross didn't see your reply). I'd go with rams cause you could keep 2-3 pair in a 55...why not german Blue Rams?

I'd go 6 GBR's and 15 rummy nosed tetras. get a colorful pleco and that'd be a killer 55. Will need some plants tho

Good luck!

Ah yeah I guess you're right about the Silver Dollars, I was really looking forward to having a few also. 4-5 adults would make a large bioload anyway. How does this sound? Btw, both filters put together would come out to 90g max, not sure about GPH.

4-5Bolivian Rams
4-5Angelfish
5-6Cories
8-12 Medium Sized Tetras

Just read your post Headrush. Why wouldn't the Rams and Angels work out? I was really looking forward to Angels also!

Rams will work IME. They are perfect mates for Angels. Just make sure they are large when bought as large Angels might pick'em off. Tetras will get killed over a couple nights by the angels unless they are larger like Phantoms and such. I had some difficulties with Rams and cories. My Rams always bit at the eyes of them. I don't know why but they always did it. I have talked to some people and it's very uncommon for this to happen but in rare cases does.

Well I have kept GBR's and they nip a little, and really like to define their own territories IME. I'd hate to see the Angels get harassed and nipped, stressed, etc...I can see the rams shredding their fins sooner or later. No guarantees that would happen but just a concern of mine....especially if an angel pair or a couple of ram pairs form. Then who knows what they'll do. Have you kept rams before? The first time I kept one I had it in with a juvie GT (Obviously NOT recommended of course)! Believe it or not, I know it sounds crazy, but the little ram would stand up to the GT and bluff at him all day long. The GT wouldn't mess with him until he was twice his size.

There are definite questions about their compatibility, but I guess it's possible. Maybe thats a good question for a new thread?

PLEASE don't let me squash your idea, this is just my opinion. They will definitely want some plants in their new tank tho. I'd start establishing those while you're searching for fish.

Good luck

2 pair of keyhole cichlids, a pair of boliviam rams and a handful of corydoras would be nice :)
