SA and Africans

I can tell you they way the fish interact in one may reason not to. Africans show their aggression and submission though color displays. Also I believe their is a Ph difference.

(Based on my african collection)

i think that if the con and the africans are the same size they can each handle beatings equaly.A long time ago i read a book about cichlids it said that the africans and americans have so many problems is because they are not able to understand each others communications through color morphs and body movments resulting in lots of fights where the africans lose due to size difference and are generaly not as aggrasive as the americans.but cons are small so i think the africans will be able to hang with him but it will be a violent tank dude lol.

African Cichlids require diffrent buffer salts then SA Cichlids. Its much easier to keep CA cichlids with africans since their Ph requirements are similar. Most SA's are pretty hardy so you could get away with keeping them together but make sure you keep your PH requirements for the africans because they are very sensitive.

Been there done that .. IT was awesome.. For a while.. Then i went to the big fish so i le4t go of the small ones :) Americans are my thing baby.. :) some of asian decent :)

But my africo-america was bossed aroudn by my oscar even when he was smaller than my africans LOL

Dear Demon_Fish

Just to reiterate
REC says the pH requirement of CA and Africans are 'similar' and not same. Mind you, Africans have high pH requirement, CA around neutral - allowing a very slight deviation on either side, and SA very low pH (discus, angel etc)

seeing as most Convicts and Africans are aquarium bred now, there really isnt a difference in water needed. Just watch the temperments as stated already, americans are usually more violent especially when compared to peacocks which are usually calm.

that 1 convict will find a spot to defend and may become more agressive it feels like breeding but has no partners.

Finally, why have an ugly convict with nice colorful peacocks. Find a Nanoluteus which gets nice and yellow with less temper.

Well since you put it that way.. You can through a Convict on the beach or on your floor for an hour and through it back in the tank and guess what LOL it'll live LOL..Water really doesn't amtter wi8th cons.. You'll get tank raized and bred ones anyway

My question too.. Why convicts...
