I have been thinking about picking up a few SA/CA books. Mostly what you see online are the aqualog books. Are they worth buying? What books would you guys recommend. I mainly keep SA semi aggressive fish (psittacus, Uaru, severums, geo's, and gymno's) but am interested in pikes and pretty much all of them. I main keep the smaller CA's such as the cryptoheros, archocentrus, etc and some of the herichthys.

What would be good books for me to buy?

haha my experience with books is that i never read them i just look at the pictures with the fish, and I have noticed that sometimes they mis label them. but i couldnt tell you one right off the top of my head that would be a good choice

American Cichlids II by Wolfgang Staeck and Horst Linke is interesting, nice photos and collection site data.
And although the names are out dated (Cichlasoma), the book Cichlids from Central America by Ad Konings has excellent info, and evolutionary theories along some interesting photos.

I also consider Thomas Widners book South American Eartheaters a must have for any Geo/Gymno keeper.

I agree with duanes about the Linke and Staeck book, it's older and out of print ... but I still tracked it down. The first one is dwarf cichlids of south america, the second covers medium and large cichlids from both south and central america.

I will also track done that darn geo book someday!!

Thanks for the info everyone. I found the American Cichlids II by Wolfgang Staeck and Horst Linke on amazon for $14 shipped to my door so I got it. The South American Eartheaters seems to be all sold out everywhere.

Any more suggestions?

Wow, I have both books. I picked them up at a garage sale for $0.50 each. :D

3 of my favorites books are, the one that duanes posted (with the picture of the book), and the other 2 are: Central American Cichlids by David Sands, and Tank Busters by Gina Sandford and Richard Crow.
