SA Cichlids in 30L gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A pair of bolivian rams, keyholes, dwarf pike cichlids, or curviceps.

firemouth, rams, jewel.

30 Litres? Bit small for anything other than Apistogramma's in my opinion, definitely not suitable for Keyholes or Laetacara sp., Rams might just cram in there.

I'd be looking at Characins or Cyprinids instead of Cichlids.

I hope you're kidding, Firemouths most certainly not. Jewels are African, also.

Edit: If it's a 30Gal Long, any of the above listed species will be fine, please use globally recognized measurements. Darth Pikes recommendations are an example of some of the nice, smaller South American species.

depends mate, do you intend using this as a grow out tank or as a permenant fixture, if it is as big as you are able to go i would say cichlids are a no go unless you go for 1-2 keyhole cichlids (really nice fich incedently) and are prepared to do very regular water changes as unless you have some external filtration (not normal on a 30l:)) then the water will get grubby pretty quick.

if you are going for a grow out then think in advance about atock as a keyhole may not last well with bigger cichlids which you may add in the future (my keyhole was the biggest in the tank when i got him and was told he would grow to 12":screwy:) he seems ok with my green terror, cons, etc but they are not fully grown yet

good luck which ever way you go

cheers

lol i don't know nothing about jewels, just that their small lol.
firemouths, i'm pretty sure you can maintain one in a 20 gal lol.
they only grow like 4 or 5 inches lol.

Personally I think a 29 is too small for a pair of Firemouths which so many people believe they fit into perfectly fine. 30Gal tank, sure. 30Litre tank, definitely not!

lol that's why i'm not using the plural for firemouth, i'm saying firemouth haha.
and he say's a 30l gal? i'd assume he's saying a 30 gallon.
which therefore can maintain a single firemouth.

Yeah I know, just saying that the Pair in a 29 thing is a bit crammed in my opinion. I think he means a 30G Long, which is a good example why standardized American sizing is annoying.
