SA Cichlids in a 55

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Now you will get very different definitions on them:

Here is what they really are:

Dithers: A fish that will move a lot, and to bring the shyness of a cichlid or other fish that otherwise would hide most of the time.

Here is a different definition that is really meant for "Target Fish" and not "Dithers":

Dithers: are Target fish used to spread out the aggression of larger cichlids, to keep them from harming each other. In some circles know as "Dinner" (Like my Giant Danios!)

That is my understanding, learned from some of the best about them for my Grammodes.

Please correct me if I am incorrect......

thanks, what make good dither for a GT?

Like Nuth88 stated, Giant Danios make excellent dithers for cichlids. I keep three in my 55 gal GT tank. I've tried keeping tankmates like a Firemouth or a Green Sev and even african rift lake peacocks, but my GT is a total freaken a**hole. He killed the peacock and the FM. Almost thought the sev was going to make it...had him a few months and he got beat up pretty bad so I added the Danios and the bullying almost came to a total stop for some time. About a month of peace came and went and he reverted back to his old ways with a severe vengence. Got the sev out and now hes about 90%. My GT just spends most of his day trying to creep up on the group of Danios and nail them but they are too fast.

If the GT is a female you can do more than one fish. My 7 inch female has a JD with her and it is great.
